With more people staying at home, were turning our homes into spas and DIY beauty boutiques! Turning to items in your pantry for at-home face masks and acne treatments isnt a bad thing; in fact it’s great for our skin! Using this time to get resourceful with items at home creates an all natural and holistic healing space. Most of the items we will be using to heal our acne are ingredients that have been around since ancient times and have been used for centuries to treat acne and breakouts on the skin. And the best part, these face masks are gentle and effective for all skin types! If any irritation does occur, discontinue use immediately.
You will need:
- a bowl (for mixing)
- measuring spoons
- Raw Honey
- Lemon
- Green Tea
- Apple Cider Vinegar
- Cinnamon
- Turmeric
- Aloe Vera
- Tea Tree oil
For the first mask, you will need one part raw honey, to one part aloe vera gel. Mix one tablespoon of raw honey and one tablespoon of aloe vera in a bowl and then apply to face, leave on for 20-30 minutes, and wash off with warm water. You can do this mask up to 3 times a week, but once a week is sufficient!
Raw honey is best, because its unpasteurized and less processed which leaves all the best nutrients and properties in the honey; these properties being anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, and antioxidant properties. Honey fights acne by killing all that bad bacteria on your skin that causes acne, while its also hydrating and makes your skin feel hydrated after.
Fresh aloe vera gel straight from the leaf is also great for the skin because it has hydrating and healing properties, and can help heal acne scars as well. Aloe vera leaves may seem intimidating if you dont have an aloe vera plant in your backyard, but dont fret. You can pick these up at most grocery stores in the produce section (Amazon prime can also can deliver these through Whole Foods market)
Second face mask is 2 tablespoons of green tea, 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (with the mother), 1 tablespoon of raw honey, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. First, steep your green tea and let it cool completely. Mix together in a bowl, leave on for up to 30 minutes, and wash off with cool water. Apple cider vinegar in this mask is going to be the star, but it is very strong and harsh on the skin so be careful and start with 1/2 teaspoon and work up to 1 teaspoon. Apple cider vinegar contains acid that works as a chemical exfoliant and can get deep in the skin to help heal acne and acne scars. Also in this mask is cinnamon, which is exfoliating and can open the pores to release all that junk under your skin. Green tea leaves are meant to balance out the harsh apple cider vinegar in this mask and can work wonders for the skin. Green tea leaves contain antioxidants, antibacterial, anti-aging components, and so much more benefits for skin.
Third face mask is Turmeric(1 tsp), raw honey(1 tbsp), and fresh-squeezed lemon juice (1 tbsp)! These ingredients can also be used as spot treatments on the face where you have pimples to help reduce redness and shrink the size of your pimples. Turmeric is amazing for the skin and reducing inflammation in general. Turmeric has been proven to contain high anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties which helps the skin look youthful and radiant. It helps to build up collagen and helps maintain the elasticity of the skin, all while keeping the skin moisturized. Turmeric is high in vitamins and minerals like Vitamin B6, calcium, vitamin C, potassium, and magnesium. Lemon in this mask exfoliates the skin, lightens acne scars, and can help with brightening the skin over time. Leave this mask on for about 30 minutes, make sure the turmeric has made the mask stiff so that it’s hard to move your face, and then wash it with cool water.
