Dr. Dugar is a board-certified surgeon located in the Beverly Hills area of California. In Southern California, it is safe to say that there is at least one Medspa in every city. Medspas have increased in the last 5-10 years as people around the globe are looking for ways to slow down the aging process. In our society, youth is very admired and a lot of experiments and research have been targeted towards slowing down this process of aging.
The history of using the bacteria Clostridium botulinum for aesthetic purposes was in-fact found accidentally. Doctors have found that the toxin created from this bacteria, botulism, have beneficial effects if used in small doses. Its initial purposes were used for research in the field of Ophthalmology. Ophthalmology is the field focusing on vision and the eyes in general. Doctors were specifically testing the botulism toxin on patients that had a condition in which one eye did not align with their other eye. The doctors found that after multiple uses that it had an effect on the muscles surrounding the eyes, and decreased wrinkles from occurring. It then quickly was studied to see how we could use this phenomenon in the cosmetic world for anti-aging.
The toxin works by inactivating the nerves in the muscles so that the muscles do not contract. This means that botox stops the wrinkles from forming in the first place. Often, consumers share with their providers that they think Botox will completely reverse their wrinkles. However, Botox does not reverse wrinkles, but rather it stop the actual muscles from contracting so that the wrinkle never forms.
Dr. Dugar thinks botox is 100% worth it, but it is the most beneficial as a procedure to prevent wrinkles rather than treat wrinkles. He suggests that patients start off young when the wrinkles have not formed in the skin at a resting face. The botox will then work on the muscle so that when patients get older the wrinkles have not formed in the first place.
The contraindications are few and far between. The benefits of the outcome of botox outweighs the risk, in both medicinal and cosmetic procedures. As long as you go to a board certified doctor.
Dr. Dugar has seen fantastic results with his patients that start botox in their 20s or even early 30s. You can see that when these patients age, their particular facial features stay very youthful. The stress of life has not had an effect on their asthetics as their friends who have not started as early.
At the Scarless Med Spa, Dr. Dugar books consultations Monday – Friday 10am-6pm for his patients interested in Botox. He will honestly evaluate your anatomy to see if it is the right time for you to begin botox. The most important thing to note is that whether or not you start now or later, botox is worth it.
