When our patients seek a Rhinoplasty, we always consider their Mental Health. In this day and age where people strive for perfection due to social media and Photoshop, many struggle with accepting their flaws or slight imperfections. During our consultations with our patients, we are completely understanding of those who are displeased and would like improvement with the anatomy of their nose; we are so happy to make positive changes and impacts by helping correct noses or make them better. However, we encounter patients who struggle with signs of Body Dysmorphia. During this mental illness, individuals either obsess over body parts or have a skewed perception of body parts being larger or smaller than they really are. We’ve seen several patients who don’t need surgery at all, but because they struggle with Body Dysmorphia, they feel they need a reconstruction surgery to make it “perfect;” when they don’t really need it.
Dr. Deepak Dugar has deep conversations with his patients and encourages them to be as confident as possible before and after Rhinoplasty! But we believe that people struggling with Body Dysmorphia should be treated before scheduling a Rhinoplasty or any cosmetic procedure.
