Most people when they think of iron in the diet they think of meat and fish. We are going to explore alternative options to incorporate more iron.

One great option is lentils. They are good for vegetarians and vegans and can be included in many different recipes. One cup of lentils gives women 1/3 of their iron supplement for the day and almost the entire amount needed for men. Lentils are also packed with protein and fiber. They can also be beneficial in supporting heart health!

Another great option is spinach. Spinach can be used in salads, smoothies, and more. The better way to absorb the iron from spinach is to cook it down first! Spinach is also packed with healthy aspects including fiber, vitamin a, vitamin c, and folic acid!

Lastly, dark chocolate is an amazing source of iron. The higher the amount of cacao the better iron amount; at least 70% cacao is recommended. One ounce of this chocolate has about 19% of the daily supplement.

All of these food options promote healthy amounts of iron that you need for oxygen transportation!
